The Balance Warrior Method
The Balance Warrior Method (BWM) is a great tool within the Mental Health and Well-being area.
It empowers individuals and allows them to take charge of their own emotions and mental state, being able to bring themselves into balance through a simple but effective combination of breathing techniques, poses and mental focus strategies.
Once learnt and integrated, it can be done in just 6-7 minutes, anywhere, anytime.
It can be performed together in a group environment, such as a class or in a work setting, at the beginning of the day to get into the right mindset for optimal performance.
It can also become an ideal solution as a short morning fitness session (or part of one), and practising it on a daily basis can bring great long-term benefits individually and collectively.
If an individual is finding him/herself out of balance (anxiety, stress, lack of focus…), the BWM provides a “go to” solution for them. It builds up resilience and confidence in their own ability to deal with difficulties.
Anyone can benefit from practising the BWM, as it is mildly physical but does not require exertion. It brings collateral benefits of improved physical balance, coordination and endurance with regular practice.
The BWM also encourages peer support and bonding, as it can be offered to the person in distress by a friend or peer to do it together, while bringing awareness in a constructive manner, without blaming.
It is also a great, positive alternative to “time out”, as individuals take responsibility for their own emotions and are able to come back in a better state to deal with any problem.
Ultimately, it means taking deliberate action instead of reaction to circumstances, problems and triggers.
“If we seek to experience life and all its emotions and choose to feel centered, happy, strong and loving right through the ups and downs, then we’ve accomplished something powerful. We’ve wielded the power of willful feeling, and suddenly life feels the way we want it to.”
Brandon Burchard – High Performance Habits
